You may get different results depending on your scan method, according to this article.
There are a wide variety of methods to scan patients. For some diagnoses, there is no room for error, so why do we get different results?
One such case can occur with autism diagnoses. While the cause of autism is still not clear cut and there are many theories on how it affects children, sometimes scans produce different results. One such case appears to occur when scanning in a closed versus open bore. Read the full story to make your own judgment.
At Accessories for MRI, we are interested to see how the world of diagnostics is always working to improve upon itself. Here, we do our best to improve our MRI equipment, such as pediatrics and tech accessories.

Researchers at the University of Davis, California, conducted a study on the neural connections of autistic children. The team had a group of 43 children with autism and 29 children without autism go through a MRI to compare the brain connectivity of the groups.
Their research so far shows there is disruption between the amygdala to other parts of the brain. The amygdala is mainly responsible for emotions; this disconnection between the emotional core to areas responsible for language and communication may be a cause for autism.
While some of this research is known already in the study of autism, there was another finding in this particular group. Connections relating to increase hypersensitivity were also found in areas of the primary visual cortex.
In straight-forward terms, these researchers have found not only are there disconnections in the brain which may cause autism, but there is increased sensory sensitivity for those with autism, which perhaps contributes to greater severity of the condition.
What these results may signal for autistic children, is not known yet. Fortunately with greater understanding comes better treatment.
At Accessories for MRI, we are happy to see how the field of pediatrics is growing. We also understand how difficult the process of MRI procedures for children can be. In this study, it was noted children had a difficult time staying still for the scanner, and as such needed to perform scans when they were sleeping. We offer a number of pediatric equipment to help children remain calm for exams, as well as MRI accessories for patient comfort.
